The 8th-grade class went to Springfield, Illinois, for a full day of activities on April 8. Their field trip was from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm.
The first historical site that the 8th-graders visited was Lincoln’s Tomb at the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Students got to see the inside of Lincoln’s Monument and learn about the history of its construction.
After the monument, students experienced the amazing history at the Abraham Lincoln Museum. They got to walk through many historical rooms to understand more about Lincoln’s life. Students also ate lunch in the museum.
After the long visit in the museum, students walked to the Illinois State Capitol. They got a full tour of the Capitol, even walking into one of the state representatives’ offices, Charlie Meier. Charlie Meier is an Okawville resident, and it was a very cool experience for students to be in his office. Students also got to enjoy a bottle of ski in his office.
The last historical site students visited was Lincoln’s home. They got a tour of the home and learned about some of Lincoln’s favorite activities in his home. As an 8th-grader on this trip, I really enjoyed this experience of learning more about Abraham Lincoln.
