OHS Voice of Democracy Winner Places Third

Kylie Going, Staff Writer

The students of the junior class at Okawville Jr./Sr. High School were able to participate in this year’s Voice of Democracy. They were to write an essay on a specific topic and a winner was chosen after all the submissions were in.

Lexy Borrenpohl was chosen for the high school as the best-written essay and was asked to read it during the school’s Veteran’s Day assembly. Lexy won $100 for being the winner and best writer.

She was then elected to go for a higher award at the regional competition in Sparta, where all the students in neighboring schools could compete. Lexy won third place overall and got a certificate. She also was awarded another $100 for winning third place in this competition. The second-place winner did not attend the event, and Thomas Hanks was the first-place winner.

Congratulation Lexy on representing Okawville High School!
