The Veterans Day Assembly was in the O-Rena at OJSHS on Tuesday, November 11. We were accompanied by the JH and HS Choir and JH and HS Band. The choir sang “The Star Spangled Banner”, “Land of the Free”, and “God Bless America”. The band played “Friends of Freedom”, “Thunderer”, and “Patriotic Parade Sequence”. Brynnley Compton gave a speech about how patriotism is in her life. Some 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-graders gave short speeches about the armed forces. We also had a guest speaker, Kurt Heckert. He talked about his experience in the forces. Even though he never fought, he told how fun it was. Also, some 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students carried out flags. All grade school students sang the armed forces song as each person in the crowd who had served in the military stood to be recognized. Patriot’s Pen winners Elijah Petrea and Julia Helbig gave their speeches to the crowd, talking about how they show patriotism. Thank you, veterans, for your service!
