Last week the baseball and softball teams started their season. After a long week of practicing, the Lady Rocket softball team had their first game. They traveled to Centralia to play on Wednesday the 13th. Having 9 seniors gone made the younger girls step up and take a spot for the game. The Lady Rockets came out with hot bats in the first inning scoring 2 runs to give them a small lead. Kaylyn Cragen was on the mound for the Rockets and threw 4 great innings giving up 1 run. On the batting side, Addison Hasheider had 2 homeruns to put the Lady Rockets up 4-3. Laura Cook came into the game for relief in the fifth inning. Unfortunately, things did not go the way that the Lady Rockets wanted it to. After the fifth inning Centrallia was up 5-4 but the Lady Rockets still had 2 innings to bat, but the weather did not go the way they wanted it to, and the game was called in the top of the 6th because of lightning. It was a good start to the season, but unfortunately ended with a loss 5-4.
The Rockets’ baseball team also had their opening game home on Thursday the 14th, against Lebanon. The Rockets had a good top of the 1st not letting the Greyhounds score. With that momentum, the Rockets had a good bottom of the 1st with a double by Hayden Heintz, John Schaller was hit by a pitch, and Aidan Anderson had a double, and that put the Rockets up 2-0. After that the Rockets had a lightning delay eventually ending the game. The game unfortunately did not count and will be rescheduled at a further date.
