Okawville senior Caroline Tepe has been named to the 2026 IHSA All-State Academic Honorable Mention Team. This recognition means Tepe excels in academics, participates in multiple IHSA sports and activities, and is actively involved in her school and community. IHSA is extremely proud to recognize these remarkable individuals of the IHSA and the state of Illinois.Â
Each IHSA member school was allowed to choose one female student and one male student to join this high-ranking team. Nominees were required to have a minimum 3.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale after their seventh semester, participate in at least two IHSA-sponsored sports or activities during each of the last two years of high school, and have shown great citizenship. The selections were looked at by a committee of IHSA principals, athletic directors, and activities directors. One male winner and one female winner from each of the seven IHSA Board of Directors Divisions were chosen at first, while the last 12 spots on the team were then rounded out with at-large candidates from anywhere in the state.Â
Throughout Tepe’s high school career, she participated in cross country, basketball, and track & field. These sports have impacted her by teaching her the value of hard work and discipline, while also helping her find joy in the things she does both as an athlete and as a person. One of her most memorable moments came during her senior year when she qualified for the state cross country meet and ran the best time she has ever had on the state course.Â
Balancing academics and athletics can be challenging, especially during long seasons and busy weeks. Tepe says she stays motivated by taking things one step at a time and reminding herself that her hard work will pay off in the long run.Â
She is especially thankful for the support system that has helped her reach this achievement. Tepe would like to thank her family, past and current coaches, and her teammates for supporting her throughout the past four years.Â
After high school, Tepe plans to attend Western Kentucky University to study exercise science with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. She also plans to continue her athletic career by running cross country and track & field at the collegiate level.Â
When asked what advice she would give to younger students striving for academic and extracurricular success, Tepe encourages them to stay on top of their studies, enjoy every moment because high school goes by quickly, listen to others and your body, remain disciplined, and always be kind because it all goes a long way.Â
Okawville is very proud of Tepe for all she has accomplished and looks forward to seeing what she achieves next. Congratulations, Caroline!
