On October 9th, Illinois State Representative Charlie Meier served as principal for a day at Okawville Jr./Sr. High School. He spent the first part of his day going from class to class, talking to the teachers and seeing all of the students’ faces. During homeroom, around 10:30, 7-12 grade gathered together in the Orena for a brief assembly. During this assembly, Charlie shared some of his past experiences in government. He explained how he was first on the Washington County Board and then moved up to be a state representative. He also explained that when in high school, the thought of being a state representative never crossed his mind; all he wanted to do was milk cows at his family’s dairy farm. After the assembly, he continued on with his day with some important conversations with Mr. Rakers about our budgets and unlawful mandates. We thank Mr. Meier for coming to visit and sharing his experiences with the Okawville Rockets!
