On February 16, the Varsity Lady Rockets began post-season with a regional match-up against the New Athens Lady Yellow Jackets. The Lady Rockets started slow, being outscored 7-3. In the second quarter, Okawville picked up the pieces, shutting down New Athens, scoring 19 to New Athens, making the score 22-7 at the half. To begin the second half, in the third quarter, Okawville outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 18-6. To finish out the game, the Lady Rockets scored 15 compared to the Lady Yellow Jackets’ 8. The final score came out to be 55-21, with Okawville on top. The leading scorer was Brynn Rhodes with 15 points. Also contributing were Josephine Schmersahl and Taylor Statler, each with 8. Jilien Harre had 6 points, Lily Helbig, Peyton Harris, Kenley Hackstadt, and Sophia Going each had 3 points, and Schae Juenger and Addison Hasheider each had 2 points. Addison Hasheider also had 10 rebounds.
On February 20, the Lady Rockets played in the Gibault Regional Championship against the Gibault Lady Hawks. The game started as a nail-biter with Okawville scoring 10 to Gibault’s 9. The second quarter ended in the same way, with the Lady Rockets scoring 10 compared to the Lady Hawks 9, making the score 20-18 going into the locker room at the half. Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Rockets outscored the Lady Hawks by 4, making the score 35-29 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rockets again outscored the Lady Hawks by 4, making the final score come out to be 47-37 with the Lady Rockets taking the Gibault Regional Championship Title. The leading scorer was Schmersahl with 17 points. Also contributing were Hackstadt and Rhodes, scoring 11 apiece, Statler with 6 points and 5 rebounds, and Hasheider had 2 points.
With this win, the Lady Rockets advance to the Bunker Hill Sectional to play Nokomis on February 24th, at 7:30 pm.
